The kids don't eat that anymore (at least not in my area). Probably because now we have concession stands full of SUGAR to buy all night, thus fundraising for the team. But I must admit, i've bought more than my share of homemade cookies and brownies.

Another memory this triggered....I remember my swimteam coach (in the 70's) telling us not to drink milk for 24 hours before the meet because we would surely throw up. Really??? for a 25 yard race at a turtles pace? HA! I've seen kids eat entire pizza's before their race and wash it down with a large YooHoo...then hit the pool, swim 25 yards and think they broke even calorie-wise. I can't imagine being there for 6 hours, although I suppose years of killing time between games at soccer tournaments has prepared me somewhat.

Stop by my blog again sometime!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120131138202752999.post-25987818037054738452008-07-11T07:18:00.000-04:002008-07-11T07:18:00.000-04:00Our family did the swim team thing when I was a ki...Our family did the swim team thing when I was a kid. It was a great experience... for my SISTERS, who were good at swimming. I hated it, was lousy at it (despite being fairly athletic in other sports), and wish I'd been allowed to quit years earlier than I eventually did. I just didn't have the right body type and always came in last in races.

I do remember liking the boxes of jello, though. Do they still do that at meets? For some reason, we'd eat boxes of raw jello mix "for energy" I think--swim meets were the only time this rather odd indulgence was allowed.Crabby McSlackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12108791388350253344noreply@blogger.com
